Time Strategies

Image
This post is dedicated to exploring time strategies.      I am lucky to have a job that falls under the "work-study" umbrella. That means that I am able to do my homework at work. This really helps me ensure that I have time to do my homework penciled into my day. In fact, I am doing it right now, and have been doing it here at work for the last 3 hours. This is a schedule that usually allows me to get everything done and get it done early.      For my article, I read Realistic Study Plans by Amanda Collins. I thought she had some good points about leaving completed goals on your to-do list to improve your morale. I think it's really important to stay motivated and this might be just the way to do it! I am really good at making my own pace and getting things done. That being said, this semester with all the online classes I think I'm going to thrive.  Time Management Photo

Technology

Image
This post is dedicated to expressing my impressions of the technological requirements for this course.      I feel at this point i am beginning to feel comfortable with the blog formatting and usage on this site. I think the explanations are more than enough help to get me through. I am good at checking back on course announcements and I feel I should be able to figure out the support sites and content sites with ease. I have spellcheck and word count. I can bookmark and I have a variety of browsers.  Technology Picture

Assignments

Image
This post is dedicated to expressing my impressions of assignments this semester.     I'm pretty used to doing readings though I suspect the readings we do for this class will be very different from the texts I read in my religion classes. The storytelling is going to be something new for me. I'm not used to being very creative, i'm much more of an analytical person so we shall see how creative I can be. I constantly have to comment on peer projects so that should be no problem as most of the other aspects of the course seem fairly straightforward and familiar. I will likely do the extra credit every week just because that is the kind of guy I am. I enjoy working on schoolwork as I feel it broadens my mind.  Assignment Picture

Growth Mindset Analysis

Image
This post will be dedicated to exploring the idea of a growth mindset.     My impression of a growth mindset is viewing your intellect and intellectual capability as something that is constantly in flux. It exists in opposition to a fixed mindset which relates to the belief that one can only learn or perform well in specific areas. thease areas are predetermined and thus beyond our control. An example of a growth mindset is when a student is performing poorly in a math class, someone with a growth mindset will say "I just don't understand yet" but they act under the assumption that they can eventually learn. however, a student with a fixed mindset will say that they are simply bad at math and they will never be successful in math because that is just how they are.       I have heard of this concept before. In fact, I teach on this topic in the Gateway to College Learning course that I serve as a Peer Teaching Assistant for here at the Univer...

Personal Introduction

Hello, One and All,     My name is Kevin (Kev) Grane. I am a senior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from Plano, Texas where I graduated Plano West Senior Highschool in a class of 1,350. I came to the University of Oklahoma to pursue a degree in religious studies and a minor in health and exercise. I have done quite a bit of study abroad at OU. I am just now returning from a semester at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. I will include a picture of the University of Edinburgh below. University of Edinburgh     This summer I had an awesome opportunity to be a research fellow with Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Unfortunately, I was unable to research in person but I was glad to participate via Zoom. This summer we studied Jewish spirituality and Mysticism in the 21st century. This means we looked at how traditional sects of Judaism viewed their faith as opposed to modern sects. This quickly became a spectrum of each sect identify...

Storybook Favorites

Image
This post is dedicated to explaining some of the previous storybook examples I have found and enjoyed.      The first storybook is related to Robin Hood. I was already familiar with the tale of Robin Hood from my childhood. Therefore, when I saw this storybook I figured there might be a few interesting anecdotes relating back to a cherished childhood memory. I particularly enjoyed the tale of Robin Hood and Little John . In this story, we see an interesting character of Robin Hood as he might appear on his day off. I thought it was really interesting as I have always seen him depicted right in the middle of an activity, never on his off time. This intrigued me to learn more and I was not disappointed.      The next storybook I looked at was Wizarding World Tales. I chose this one because I am a huge Harry Potter nerd so any fanfiction relating to Harry Potter already has my interest. I particularly enjoyed the tale titled " Forbidden For...
